Class Offerings

There is no one-size-fits-all swim class. Because of this, we work to offer a wide variety of classes, making it easy for you to find the one that is best suited to your needs. Below are the current class offerings at Blue Buoy.

Parent & Me Classes

When younger children are first introduced to the water, it can be a bit shocking. For many children, the best way to get to know the water is with a parent by their side as the ultimate source of comfort. These joint classes allow you to help your child develop their relationship with the water, and you get the added bonus of being there to share in your child’s joy.

Semi-Private and Private Classes

Semi-private classes allow our talented students to get the benefit of direct and personalized instruction while also having another student with them to socialize with and develop their skills with. These classes include only two students and one instructor, allowing the students to get as much as possible out of their instruction.

Our private classes are good on their own or in combination with semi-private classes. These classes are best for students who are highly motivated to compete or who have a targeted goal in mind. We also offer private lessons for students with special needs who may need some extra attention and support to master swimming.

Stroke Prep Classes

Our stroke prep classes help children master the four strokes (freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly, and backstroke). We open each class to a maximum of six school-aged children. As long as your child has basic swim techniques down and can safely be in the water independently, as well as a basic understanding of two of the four strokes, he or she is eligible for this class.

Stroke Technique Classes

These classes go for a half an hour and are open to as many as 15 school-aged students. These classes are designed to follow the stroke-prep classes and help children to better refine their approaches. This class is ideal preparation for children seeking to enter into competition.

Adult Swim Classes

While most of our classes target children, we do not leave the adults out of the fun. Even if you do not know how to swim, our classes are open to you. We can help you learn the basics, improve your technique, or even gear up for competitions. It is never too late to become the best swimmer you can be.

Top Quality Swim Instructors

When it comes to the instructors we hire, we are very selective. We only hire the very best candidates after a rigorous vetting process, including mock classes and full background checks. Once we extend an offer of employment, instructors must go through our direct training in our signature teaching system, education training, and must earn full CPR and First Aid certification. Because we are selective about who we hire and provide our instructors with an incredible working environment, most of our swim instructors stay with us for the long term, providing our students with consistency.

First-Rate Facilities

Blue Buoy’s facilities are located close to Dana Point in Tustin. We have multiple pools for our students, allowing us to use the best pool for the given class. Our small, enclosed pool is ideal for infants and toddlers, while our larger pool is good for older children and adults. The small pool has a minimum depth of two feet and a maximum depth of four feet. The large pool has a minimum depth of three feet and a maximum depth of eight feet. We keep both pools at 90-93 degrees to ensure the temperature is ideal for soothing muscles during these intense workouts. We also maintain the temperature on the decks surrounding our pools.

Flexible Scheduling

We want everyone to get the instruction they need, and their schedule should not get in the way of that. To help, we offer classes well into the evening, making it easy to work your instruction times around your other commitments. And, should you miss a class, we will give you the chance to make it up whenever possible.
