Huntington Beach’s Home for Quality Swim Instruction

Swimming is one of America’s favorite recreational activities, as well as a popular competitive sport. For children, it can provide a number of crucial benefits, including enhanced physical strength and coordination, better body confidence and improved brain function. No matter their level of previous experience, adult swimmers also gain many of these same benefits. In order to achieve their goals, all swimmers need help from experienced instructors who know how to create a safe, stimulating learning environment.

In the City of Huntington Beach, both children and adults turn to Blue Buoy Family Swim School for the finest in swim instruction. Since the 1950s, we’ve combined teaching expertise with top-flight facilities, an exemplary track record for safely and a love for swimming that runs through everything we do. Whether you or your children already have some swimming experience or are entering the water for the very first time, we’ll help you meet all of your recreational and competitive goals.

Class Offerings

Parent & Me Classes – While children under three can benefit greatly from basic swim instruction, they may be temporarily overwhelmed by the new environment of a pool. At the same time, parents may worry about their young children’s first encounter with the water. These joint classes answer both concerns by letting you take to the water with your child and share the swimming experience.

Semi-Private & Private Classes – Our semi-private classes match two student swimmers with a single instructor. This interactive environment blends the advantages of personalized teaching with the critically important social experience of learning with other children. This means that comradeship develops along with swimming skills.

Our private classes feature one-to-one interaction between student and instructor. This setting can provide enhanced benefits for certain swimmers. For instance, your child may prefer private instruction when working on advanced techniques for competition strokes. Children seeking to meet Scouting requirements and children with special abilities may also prefer this small-scale teaching environment.

Stroke Prep Classes – Stroke Prep is for school-age children who have some familiarity with at least two of the four competition strokes, but want to develop basic competence in all four strokes. Each class contains a maximum of six students. Completion of these lessons can lead to further training in a Stroke Technique class.

Stroke Technique Classes – These classes provide advanced freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke and backstroke instruction for school-age children. They also help students develop the conditioning and stamina that form the basis for consistent pool performance. Each classes contains a maximum of 15 students and lasts for half an hour.

Adult Swim Classes – As an adult, you may feel that your opportunity to learn how to swim has passed you by. We aim to show you that age is never a barrier to new pool experiences. Each of our beginning adult classes combines top-notch instruction with a fun, relaxed setting and a chance to interact with other novice adult swimmers.

We also conduct classes for adults already familiar with the basics of swimming. These classes may appeal to you if you’re re-entering the world of competitive swimming, have an upcoming charity event or merely want to improve your swimming for recreation or exercise. The pace and content of our adult classes are adaptable to the needs of each participant.

Top-Quality Swim Instruction

Blue Buoy is committed to providing the very best in swim instruction. In line with this commitment, every instructor we hire must demonstrate complete swimming proficiency, as well as a love of teaching others. In addition, each new instructor must have full First Aid and CPR certification, and undergo both poolside and classroom training in our time-tested, in-house method of swimming education. Thorough background checks and minimum age requirements further reinforce our high standards. Many of our instructors remain on staff long enough to serve as children’s sole teacher over the entire course of their swim training.

First-Rate Facilities

Blue Buoy is located close to Huntington Beach in the City of Tustin. Our first-rate facilities are open throughout the year and feature two pools. Infants and toddlers use our smaller enclosed pool, which has a depth ranging from two to four feet. This environment provides an excellent setting for teaching very young children the most essential swimming skills. Older children and adults use our larger pool, which has a depth of three to eight feet. This environment provides the room needed to accommodate larger bodies and teach competition strokes. Regardless of the time of year, we maintain both pools and the surrounding pool decks at a comfortable temperature.

Flexible Scheduling

Optimally, all students taking swim classes will regularly attend all scheduled lessons

and maximize the benefits of consistent swim instruction. Of course, daily life is rarely optimal, and many students will occasionally miss a class unless they can reschedule. We help reduce the chances of scheduling conflicts by making classes available at various times of day. In addition, both children and adults can reschedule missed classes within a reasonable timeframe when conflicts can’t be avoided.
