Newport Beach’s Home for Quality Swim Instruction
From the earliest stages of childhood, swim instruction provides a range of important benefits, including improved confidence and body coordination, support for normal brain development and increased social interaction skills. Swimming lessons can also provide big dividends for both adult beginners and adults who want to sharpen their existing skills. However, children and adults can only count on these crucial benefits when they receive lessons from experienced instructors who know to how maintain safety and create a fun, interactive learning environment.
In the City of Newport Beach, students of all ages and abilities turn to Blue Buoy Family Swim School. Since 1956, we’ve taught people from all walks of life how to swim for recreational and competitive purposes. Whether you’re introducing your young child to the water, getting older children ready to participate in upcoming meets or preparing for an adult Triathlon, you can rely on the same combination of teacher excellence, well-maintained facilities and scheduling flexibility for private, semi-private and group instruction.
Class Offerings
Parent & Me Classes – Young children may sometimes be quite apprehensive about taking swimming lessons. And as a parent, you may share this concern. These joint classes make things easier all around by allowing you to join your child under the age of three in the pool. As a bonus, you get to share directly in your child’s first experiences of life in the water.
Semi-Private & Private Classes – The semi-private classes we offer give children the combined benefits of quality personalized instruction and the positive experiences of swimming with peers. These experiences include the chance to share learned swimming techniques and the opportunity to develop social interaction skills. Each class includes two students and a single instructor.
Our one-to-one private classes may be the best option for several types of swim students. For example, highly motivated students may prefer this setting, especially if they need to meet specific Scouting goals or want help with competitive swimming techniques. In addition, private instruction often provides a superior learning environment for children with special abilities.
Stroke Prep Classes – These classes, designed for a maximum of six school-age children, provide instruction in the four strokes (freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke) used during competitions. All students must have a basic level of comfort with swimming, as well as some experience with any two of the competition strokes. Participation in Stroke Prep serves as preparation for more advanced Stroke Technique training.
Stroke Technique Classes – These half-hour classes, which contain no more than 15 students, have two main purposes. First, they help school-age children improve and refine their competition techniques. In addition, they focus on the physical conditioning needed to perform consistently in the pool. Some participants in these classes are graduates of our Stroke Prep class, while others have gained experience performing the four competition strokes in another setting.
Adult Swim Classes – If you’re an adult, you may think that it’s too late to learn how to swim. Let us prove you wrong with our beginning adult classes, which introduce you to the basics in a fun, appealing environment. Interaction with other beginning adults enhances the experience.
Many adults already have a swimming background, but need to increase their skills with additional lessons. For example, you may be preparing for an upcoming competitive or charitable event. Our advanced adult classes provide the perfect setting for improving your abilities. Whether you need advanced or beginning instruction, we focus on your individual needs in classes with low student-to-teacher ratios.
Top Quality Swim Instructors
Each swim instructor employed by Blue Buoy goes through a thorough qualification process that includes direct training in our signature teaching system, classroom training and full CPR and First Aid certification. In addition, each instructor must demonstrate mastery of swimming techniques and a love of teaching these techniques to others. We further insure the quality of our staff by performing complete background checks prior to any hiring. Our instructors are so dedicated that many of our students have just one teacher throughout all their years of classes.
First-Rate Facilities
Blue Buoy’s facilities are located in nearby Tustin. We feature an enclosed small pool that’s perfectly suited for teaching core swimming skills to infants and toddlers. We also feature a second, larger pool that gives us the extra room needed to instruct older children and adults. The small pool has a minimum depth of two feet and a maximum depth of four feet. The large pool has a minimum depth of three feet and a maximum depth of eight feet. At all times of the year, we maintain each pool in an optimal range of 90 F to 93 F. We further enhance the comfort of our facilities by maintaining a constant temperature on the decks surrounding both pools.
Flexible Scheduling
Anyone learning how to swim will benefit from regular class participation and a steady accumulation of skills. However, as we all know, it can be difficult to find the time needed to stick to an ironclad swim instruction schedule. To make it easier for you or your children to get enough pool time, we offer flexible scheduling for all of our students. And if you miss a class, we give you ample opportunity to make up for lost time by rescheduling your lessons.
