Swim Instruction Expertise Serving the City of Fountain Valley

Swimming is noted for its ability to improve the mental and physical quality of children’s lives. Confidence in the water can also help adults maintain fitness and a health-supporting, active lifestyle. However, these benefits are only available when you and your child receive instruction from qualified teachers who know how to adapt to individual needs and encourage student improvement.

In the City of Fountain Valley, Blue Buoy Swim School is your time-tested resource for swim instruction expertise in a friendly, inviting setting. Since the 1950s, generations of Orange County’s children and adults have gained competence and developed advanced skill under our watchful eye. Whether you and your family are looking for a recreational or competitive outlet, you’ll find what you need in our full slate of classes, dedicated teaching staff and first-rate local facilities.

Our Classes

Parent & Me Classes – Each Parent & Me class is specifically designed to help you and your young child overcome the potential anxiety of first-time swimming lessons. We achieve this by asking you to accompany your child under the age of three in the water during each session. In addition to a sense of security, this approach supplies you with the chance to form unique and precious memories.

Semi-Private  and Private Classes – A semi-private setting is the perfect way to provide your child with personalized swim instruction while also allowing for shared experiences with other class participants. Each class we offer matches one teacher with a pair of students. We find this ratio to be optimal for maximum swimming and social benefit.

The one-on-one environment of a private class provides your child with even more focus and instructional attention than a semi-private approach. This type of setting often appeals to children who are motivated by the achievement of a specific swimming-related goal. In addition, it offers needed support for children with special abilities who otherwise may not receive adequate instructor oversight.

Stroke Prep Classes – Stroke preparation classes help school-age children develop well-rounded performance of the full repertoire of competition-oriented swimming strokes. To participate at this level, your child must feel comfortable with the swimming pool and an instructional environment. In addition, he or she must have at least some experience with two of the following techniques: freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke or backstroke.

Stroke Technique Classes – School-age swimmers with demonstrated skill in the four competition strokes often require advanced instruction to expand their capabilities. In addition, they often require physical conditioning that allows them to maintain proper form. Our stroke technique classes are specifically designed to fulfill each of these needs.

Adult Swim Classes – The development of swimming skill is possible for the vast majority of adults. All it takes is a supportive environment and instructors who understand the special challenges facing adult bodies. Our beginner classes allow you to start your recreational or competitive swimming life in the best possible circumstances. While focusing on skill development, we leave plenty of room for camaraderie and fun.

Some adults already possess solid core swimming skills, but have a desire to improve their abilities. If this description applies to you, you can take advantage of our advanced adult classes. Whether your underlying motive is recreational or competitive, you’ll find the support needed to sharpen your performance of specific strokes or develop more general swimming mastery.

Dedicated, Experienced Swim Instruction

Reliable instruction is absolutely key to a safe, productive learning environment. In recognition of this fact, Blue Buoy upholds the highest possible standards for instructor quality. Before they’re hired, all of our potential staff members must:

  • Demonstrate comprehensive swimming proficiency
  • Pass a detailed background check
  • Show proof of current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Demonstrate an aptitude for teaching others, and
  • Meet a minimum age standard of 19 years

Upon meeting these requirements, each new instructor must also undergo training in the unique, cooperative and interactive Blue Buoy teaching system. We find that this in-depth process results in a dedicated staff that tends to remain with us for many years to come.

Top-Quality Facilities

Quality facilities also play an important role in the success of swim instruction. With this in mind, our base in the City of Tustin features two pools: one with relatively small dimensions for our youngest class participants and a much larger pool for older participants. This dual setup allows us to optimize the instructional setting for students of all ages and sizes. At all times, stringent temperature controls keep both the pools and the pool decks comfortable and accommodating.

Scheduling Flexibility

The process of learning how to swim is much easier when you consistently attend class. However, not everyone can reliably make it to a class held at the same time each week. For this reason, we provide a staggered class schedule that makes instruction available to swimmers of all ages at various times of day. In addition, we provide you with ample opportunity to make up missed lessons before instructors move on to new topics or areas of focus.

Committed to Fountain Valley and Orange County

Formerly known as Talbert and Gospel Swamps, the present-day City of Fountain Valley is situated in Orange County just north of Huntington Beach. The municipality’s current name derives from an unusually elevated water table that led to the formation of numerous artesian wells in the area. Fountain Valley is largely a bedroom community with residents who commute to work in other nearby cities. However, it also serves as a base for some major corporations, including Kingston Technology and Hyundai Motor America. Mile Square Regional Park provides residents with plenty of recreational opportunities.

Blue Buoy’s Tustin facilities are located just a few miles east of Fountain Valley. For more than 60 years, we’ve served as Orange County’s hub for exemplary swim instruction that combines fun, safety and teaching excellence. We’re happy to say that our graduates often make recreational or competitive swimming a permanent part of their lives. In addition to many thousands of average citizens, our roster of former students includes both Olympic medal owners and world record holders. Whatever your swimming-related dreams for yourself or your child, we can help you realize them in a genuine family-oriented setting.
