Expert Swim Instruction Serving the City of Garden Grove

blue buoy swim school parent and me garden groveSwimming is one of the best all-around forms of aerobic exercise. In addition to promoting physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle, it can help improve your child’s mental and emotional quality of life. However, to develop the proper skills while having fun in a safe environment, children (and adults) must receive qualified instruction from teachers who love their work. Otherwise, the wonders of life in the water may just pass them by.

In Garden Grove, turn to Blue Buoy Swim School as your trusted source for swim instruction that combines quality, friendliness and safety. Since the age of the drive-in, we’ve been helping Orange County learn the basics of swimming, as well as the advanced skills needed for competition at the highest level. Whether you’re seeking a class for your children or yourself, you’ll find everything you need from our comprehensive selection of conveniently scheduled courses. And our top-notch facilities help keep you comfortable every step of the way.

Available Classes

blue buoy swim school semi private classes garden groveParent & Me – While swimming provides tremendous benefits for young children, many kids under the age of three may initially feel uncomfortable or even frightened around the pool. And in many cases, their parents share their discomfort. Our Parent & Me classes help ease concerns all around by inviting you to support your child by participating directly in each lesson.

Semi-Private and Private – Children learning how to swim benefit from plenty of access to their instructors. At the same time, they can gain a number of advantages from their interactions with their peers. Our semi-private classes, which match two swimmers with one instructor, promote both goals while focusing on the basics of swim technique.

For certain groups of school-age swimmers, a one-to-one interaction with an instructor provides the greatest learning benefits. Examples here include children with special abilities, as well as highly motivated students seeking to meet their own personal or competitive goals. Our private classes are designed to create just this kind of focused learning environment.

Stroke Prep – All young swimmers who intend to participate in competitions should learn all four of the strokes (butterfly, freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke) used at competitive meets. Stroke Prep is the course we use to focus on the development of the required skills. As a prerequisite, all participants must have some prior exposure to at least two of the four strokes.

Stroke Technique – Upon completing Stroke Prep (or otherwise demonstrating their swimming proficiency) students can take part in our more advanced Stroke Technique classes. These classes emphasize two objectives. Foremost is refinement of the skills needed to smoothly perform the four competition strokes. In addition, we focus on the development of the physical capacities needed to maintain proper technique during extended pool sessions.

Adults – A significant number of adults regret not learning how to swim when they were younger. However, experience has shown us that you’re never past the point where you can develop a solid set of swimming skills. Our beginning adult classes provide a fun, non-threatening environment for people in all stages of life.

Our teaching curriculum also includes classes designed for adults with previous swimming experience. These classes are perfect for people who want to prepare for charity events or competitions, as well as people who just want to navigate the pool with greater confidence in their abilities. A small teacher-to-student ratio helps ensure that you’ll get plenty of attention geared toward your personal goals.

Experienced, Dedicated Swim Instruction

In line with this commitment, all prospective teachers must demonstrate swimming mastery and present current First Aid and CPR certification. In addition, they must undergo a background check and complete our in-house instructor training. Finally, all Blue Buoy instructors must display a genuine desire to teach others. Teachers who meet our high standards often remain on staff for extended periods of time and shepherd young swimmers through every stage of their poolside development.

Top-Rated Facilities

At our home base in Tustin, we maintain some of Orange County’s premier swim instruction facilities. Toddlers and infants receive close attention in a small, enclosed pool that helps ease the fear of learning new skills in an unfamiliar environment. Older children and adults learn in a larger, open pool designed to accommodate their bigger frames. Both pools and the surrounding pool aprons are climate-controlled to promote a comfortable environment in all seasons.

Flexible Scheduling

However, today’s children and adults maintain such busy schedules that this can seem like an unrealistic goal. To make things easier, we schedule our classes at several times throughout the day and encourage you to attend the most convenient sessions each week. And if you ever completely miss a class, you’ll have an ample window in which to complete a makeup session and keep your swimming goals on track.

Committed to Garden Grove and Orange County

Garden Grove is an Orange County city of more than 170,000 with roots that extend back to the 1870s. Official incorporation took place in the 1950s. Unusually, just a thin strip of land connects the main body of Garden Grove to the western portion of its territory, known locally as West Garden Grove. As a result of their community’s location, residents are within easy reach of some of the region’s favorite recreational and entertainment venues. A short list of these destinations includes Disneyland, Adventure City, Knott’s Berry Farm and Mile Square Regional Park.

Blue Buoy’s Tustin headquarters is just a few miles southwest of Garden Grove. During our 60-plus years of operation, we’ve shared our love of the water with generations of Orange County’s recreational and competitive swimmers. With the help of our expert instruction, some of our graduates have gone on to participate (and win) in the Olympics and other national and international events. And, of course, we’ve also trained thousands of people who swim just for fun. Whatever your reasons for starting your poolside journey, you’ll get the help you need from our talented, enthusiastic and friendly staff.
